Message from the Chair
We are pleased to organize 5th International Conference on Plant Metabolomics in July 2008 in Yokohama, Japan. We cordially invite you to join this exciting conference, which will be held in Asia for the first time.
The metabolome (a set of all metabolites of an organism) represents not only the ultimate phenotype of cells by perturbation of cellular function, but the metabolome can also affect back on cellular function. Therefore, metabolomics plays a key role for understanding cellular systems. Metabolomics research is important in the field of plant science, because plants collectively produce a huge variety of chemical compounds, far more than animals and even microorganisms. Most of the human-beneficial properties of plants, such as for foods, medicinal resources, or industrial raw materials, are ascribed to plant metabolites.
We hope this meeting will be a good opportunity to exchange information and thus be a trigger of further collaboration in the plant metabolomics community in the world.
